Sunburn

If you are going to be spending some time in the sun you will want to avoid suffering from sunburn, so, as well as investing in good sun lotion it might also be worth stocking up on antioxidants before you go. Research has shown that taking vitamin C in combination with vitamin E helps prevent sunburn. Similarly the pink coloured carotenoid astaxanthin has also been shown to offer protection from harmful UV rays. Astaxanthin has also been shown to reduce skin sagging and wrinkling following sun exposure. Adding plenty of fruit, vegetables, wholegrains and nuts to your diet helps boost vitamin C and E whilst regularly including salmon increases astaxanthin.
If you do get sunburnt there is help at hand, try applying Aloe Vera gel to help soothe sun-irritated skin. Aloe Vera gel may also be helpful if you suffer from prickly heat.
During long periods of exposure to the sun we can also become dehydrated to it is important to drink more water than usual. A good way to increase hydration is by taking Higher Nature Performax Hydrate when on holiday, this will also help should you suffer any holiday diarrhoea as it replaces lost electrolytes.
All vitamin supplements are available at Images.
